At 7.00 am, we will set off on our exciting adventure from bustling Mexico City to the charming colonial gem of San Miguel de Allende. Over the next four hours, we will immerse ourselves in the beauty of the Mexican landscape, passing through the city of Querétaro; declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it played a pivotal role in Mexican history, making the visit a journey through time. We will marvel at the imposing Aqueduct, a monumental structure of 74 arches standing 28.5 metres high and stretching 1,280 metres in length. We will visit the historic Ex-Convent of La Cruz, the setting for crucial events in Mexican history, from serving as Miguel Domínguez’s prison during the War of Independence to becoming Maximilian of Habsburg’s headquarters and housing the legendary ‘Tree of the Crosses’, planted in 1697 by Fray Antonio Margil de Jesús.

We will explore the charms of the Historic Centre, home to over 1,400 historic monuments and architectural gems from the 17th and 18th centuries. Our journey continues to San Miguel de Allende, a city that stands as a colonial treasure and has been recognised six times as the “Best Small City in the World” in the “Readers’ Choice Awards”, as well as being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Its cobbled streets will lead us to the picturesque Main Square, past its mansions, where highlights include the Parish Church of San Miguel Arcángel, a neo-Gothic architectural icon; the Chapel of the Santa Casa de Loreto, dedicated to the veneration of St John the Baptist; the Church of San Francisco with its eclectic façade featuring various architectural styles, the Casa del Mayorazgo de la Canal and the Casa de Ignacio Allende Museum, which offer a fascinating insight into the history of Mexico and these spectacular mansions.
San Miguel de Allende will also charm us with its wide range of culinary delights, allowing us to sample the best of its cuisine in its charming cafés and restaurants, not to mention its spectacular craft shops and art galleries. Return to Mexico City.
